According a recent interview with former UFC-alumni-turned-pornstar, War Machine—who was born Jonathan Koppenhaver on November 30, 1981—he adamantly claims he's 'not a monster.'
However, Koppenhaver has past evidence of Jail-time caused by idiotic and alcoholic behavior—such as beating and choking his girlfriend—so he is by no means a model-citizen.
Koppenhaver, now 30, got his entrance-exam into big-time cagefighting back in September of 2007, on The sixth-season of The Ultimate Fighter: Team Hughes vs. Team Serra.
There, Koppenhaver told the reality-television-world that he 'once tried to save his father by performing CPR, only to learn the following day that his efforts were in vain—as, despite his efforts, his father had died.'
This revelation from War-Machine gave us all a look into the mind of a little boy. One who, through no fault of his own, was irreparably wounded from having been exposed to extreme childhood trauma.
The death of a boy's father at a very young age can cause him tremendous inner pain.
This is a factor in which, depending on who you ask, may or may not fully-explain Koppenhaver's troubled youth and his numerous psychological issues, which now, quite obviously, haunt his everyday life.
In the interview below—filmed on the eve of yet another one-year prison term—War-Machine seems to still be in denial regarding a number of current issues. Mainly that he has been unjustly convicted again, and that he shouldn't be held accountable for his actions.
It's a sad, but all-too-familiar story.
